2003 NEWS

September 11, 2003, a delegation of 10 members, including Hon Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Foreign Minister of Kenya, accompanied by the relevant leaders of Foreign Affairs Ministry of China and Sichuan Foreign Affairs Office, paid a visit to the Rice Institute of our university.

August 8, 2003, a visiting delegation of 9 members from the Inner Mongolia Grassland Management Project, led by Dr. Jim Taylor (Australian expert), was showed around in our campus. They were received by our relevant leaders and had discussion about such problems as community agriculture, partaking-type community development, adult education, community training, etc. with our leaders and experts.

September 28, 2003, Arianne. Van. Dijk (a post-graduate student), co-cultivated by Vehene University of the Netherlands and Economic Management College of SAU, finished her two-month study in our university. Arianne's Chinese tutors were Prof. Fu Xinhong (Economic Management College of SAU) and Prof. Yang Jinxiu, (Personnel Department of SAU). "Two months of study in SAU is short but fruitful." Tears in her eyes, Arianne hated to part from her Chinese teachers and friends, "I' ve learned much from this trip to China. I like China very much. Look at this Chinese cheongsam, this Chinese knot, and these bamboo chopsticks¡­this tea.... I will take them home and remember you for ever."

On July 5, 2003, three officials of the Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation Bureau of the French Embassy in Beijing ---- Prof. Xia Liang, Prof. Dupont and another French official, came to our university for a friendly visit.

From April 8 to 9, 2003,Dr. Cheng Xianming, expert of the plant pathology of the Agricultural Research Bureau of the Agricultural Ministry of U.S.A., visited our school at the invitation of Prof. Ren Zhenglong, Vice-President of our university. Dr. Chen visited the Wheat Breeding Base and the Exhibition Hall of SAU History. His lecture on "Prevalence and Control of the Stripe Rust in U.S.A." was the highlight of his visit and warmly welcomed by the postgraduates of our university.

From April 1 to 3, 2003,A three-day meeting, the "Sichuan Provincial Universities' Foreign Affairs Working Conference", was held in our university.

March 28, 2003, Mr. Clarpas, the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Science & Technology of Nordrhein Westfalen Germany and the Secretary of State Affairs, leading a group of three members, visited our university at the invitation of the Chinese Educational Ministry. They purposely made an investigation on the joint project -- the "Sino-German Rape Research Center " for the further scientific cooperation and academic exchange.

March 25, 2003, an agreement of the cooperation on the specialty of grass science between Sichuan Agricultural University of China and Michigan State University of U.S.A. was formally signed in Beijing. The Specialty of Grass Science of Michigan State University takes the leading place in the world and this cooperation will greatly enhance the educational level in the specialty of Grass Science of our university.

April 25, 2003, Mr. Dupuis, the special envoy of Haitian President and Mr. Wilson, the assistant, visited the Rice Institute of our university. Mr. Dupuis and his entourage toured China at the invitation of our country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
