Two Experts from Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization Coming to Our University for Academic Exchange (June 3rd,2015)

On June 1, Dr. John Manner and Dr. Chunji Liu from Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization came to our university for academic exchanges at the invitation of Triticeae Research Institute. They gave reports in Chengdu campus, entitled “New approaches in molecular crop improvement” and “Toward the cloning of Fusarium crown rot resistance genes in wheat and barley”.

Dr. John Manner introducedtheir laboratory, agricultural research trends in Australia and Asia, their laboratory and the present situation of Australian grain, cotton and oil-bearing crops. He elaborated on improving crops with molecular markers and identifying the phenotype with modern technology. His illustrations aroused great interest of teachers and students. He also briefly introduced research progress of wheat dormant gene and wheat stripe rust resistance gene cloning. Finally, Dr. John Manner looked into the prospect of digital agriculture and answered questions from teachers and students.
